Deborah Daffé was born in Edmonton, Alberta and lived in Calgary, Alberta for thirty years.
Deborah started painting and drawing as a small child, encouraged by her father. While in grade six, she was awarded a scholarship to the Edmonton Art Gallery to study several styles of painting and different mediums but always returned to acrylics.
Whether working as an accountant, a teachers’ aide, or running her own restaurant business, Deborah always painted part-time, often on commissioned works; someone’s child, pet, house or favorite scene. She is versatile in her subject matter and her paintings are held in private and commercial collections across Canada. Deborah moved to Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island in 2010 where she now paints full-time in her acreage studio. She is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and of the DeCosmos Fine Arts Society.
After entering her first juried show, Deborah won an ‘Award of Excellence’ (FCA, Arrowsmith Chapter, Summer Show, 2011).
Artist’s Statement
Art is not what I do, it’s who I am. I really don’t understand how it comes out of my fingers but it does and it feels wonderful.
I am inspired by the way light plays on things, whether in nature or manmade. I also enjoy using colour to create a mood or a place or a feeling.
