Marian studied Art History at the University of Toronto and received her diploma in Technical Illustration and Graphic Designe from Sheridan College in Oakville Ontario. While moving and living in many of Western Canada’s major cities, she pursued a variety of careers, in real estate development, sales & marketing, ski area management economic statistics and retail “The business skills I acquired are invaluable. As my children grow older, I feel an intense desire to return to my love of painting, and graphic design. Over the past few years, she has experimented with different mediums, oils, watercolour, gouache, acrylic and mixed media and participated in numerous workshops with talented artists in Alberta and BC.
"I believe that the individual expression of painting allows us to constantly explore the beauty we see in our surroundings. I enjoy painting outdoors and strive to capture the moment. I am becoming more concerned with the use and intensity of colour, texture and light. I am drawn towards an urge to create a sense of design rather than a photo realistic interpretation of what I see. Soft and hard lines, negative images, blending, mixing and the effects that each brush stoke has with another continues to inspire me to do more. The sense that once one painting is done, the next one is waiting ' I am continually learning and growing!"
Impressionists and colorists alike inspire me as well as artists who have mastered mixed media effects. I currently handle a variety of graphic assignments, both computer and hand rendered. I enjoy different aspects of nature, gardens, architectural renderings, mountains landscapes, as well as portraits of people and animals.
As an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and past executive member of the FCA Calgary chapter her work has been shown in many group and solo shows in Calgary, and hangs in many private collections.
